What a difference a year makes- so make it great!

What a difference a year makes- so make it great!
By Brenda J Titus, BCH

In my former career, I was responsible for hiring new employees. An important interview question was always “how do you see yourself in a year?” Depending on the response, I’d expand that out further, but I was very aware of the importance of projecting out just one year in the lives of my young employees who were just entering into their new careers. I rely on this question in my own life both personally and professionally. I sit with myself each year right after the National Guild of Hypnotists (which is right before my birthday) and I ask myself how I want to grow, where I want to go, who I want to continue to grow to be in the coming year both personally and professionally. It helps me set goals and stay focused on what is important to me.

When I initially meet with my clients, I like to ask this question of them. Sometimes they’ve been so focused on the past and the difficulties they’ve been dealing with that led them to see me, and sometimes they’ve forgotten than they get to create their future. This creation begins with what they want for themselves.

I’ll vary this question depending on what the client is seeing me for, what their expressed goals look like, and what time in the year it is. If we are near enough to the calendar new year or their birthday (or some other significant annually recurring date), this question becomes a powerful anchor for growth.

One of the fun things I like to do with clients after we’ve discussed their goals for growth is to take them out of their day-to-day understanding of working towards goals and what the final product looks like and let them plant these goals like a garden inside their subconscious minds. We explore the full metaphor from planting the seeds to harvest, and ultimately to the period of rest between growth cycles. This helps them employ their creative minds and create beautiful symbols to anchor to their goals. Throughout our sessions together, I employ direct suggestion and Age Progression to help clients tend to their garden and reap the rewards of their harvest!

Are you interested in learning more about working with nature symbols, employing annually recurring events to support growth and Age Progression in your sessions? I will be presenting at the National Guild of Hypnotists Annual Convention to discuss these topics.

Session 11042: Age Progression Friday, August 9 at 4pm

Session 22114: Achieving your goals in your personal new year! Saturday, August 10 from 11am-1pm
